Parent Guide 🐱

Everything you need to get the most out of Learn with Kit — from first launch to setting healthy screen time habits.

Getting Started

1. Download the App

Learn with Kit is available free on the Apple App Store. Search for "Learn with Kit" or tap the download button on our home page. No account or credit card is required to start.

2. First Launch

When you open the app for the first time, Kit the cat will greet your child and offer a short tour of the six learning areas. We recommend sitting together for the first session so your child gets comfortable with the interface.

3. Choose a Starting Topic

For younger children (0–2), we recommend starting with Colors or Animals, which use high-contrast visuals and simple interactions. For children aged 3–5, jump straight into Alphabet or Numbers.

Tip: Short, frequent sessions (10–15 minutes) are more effective for toddlers than long sittings. Kit's activities are designed to feel complete in bite-sized chunks.

Learning by Age

Kit's content is designed to grow with your child. Here's a suggested focus by age group:

0–12 months

Colors & Shapes

High-contrast visuals and gentle sounds to stimulate early visual development.

1–2 years

Animals & First Words

Animal sounds and illustrated flashcards to spark first vocabulary.

2–3 years

Colors, Shapes & Animals

Sorting, matching, and naming games to build recognition and memory.

3–4 years

Alphabet & Numbers

Letter sounds, phonics, counting to 10, and number recognition.

4–5 years

All Topics

Letter tracing, numbers to 20, early addition, and word building.

Parent Dashboard

The Parent Dashboard gives you a clear view of your child's progress and lets you customise their experience. To access it, tap the 🔒 lock icon in the top corner of the home screen and complete the simple parent gate.

Progress Tracking

See which topics your child has explored, how many activities they've completed, and which areas they return to most. Progress is shown as a simple visual chart — no numbers or grades that might add pressure.

Screen Time Limits

Set a daily usage limit from 5 to 60 minutes. When the limit is reached, Kit gently lets your child know it's time for a break with a friendly goodbye animation. You can always extend the session from the Parent Dashboard.

Topic Lock

Prefer your child focus on a specific topic? You can temporarily hide other topic tiles from the home screen. This is useful for reinforcing a skill your child is working on.

Healthy Screen Time Tips

We follow guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and encourage all parents to use Learn with Kit as part of a balanced routine:

Research note: Interactive educational apps, especially those used alongside a caregiver, are associated with better learning outcomes than passive video. Sitting with your child and talking about what Kit is teaching makes a real difference.

Safety & Privacy

Your child's safety is our highest priority. Learn with Kit is designed to be a completely enclosed environment:

Read our full Privacy Policy for complete details on how we handle data.

In-App Purchases

The free version of Learn with Kit includes a substantial amount of content. Optional premium content packs can be purchased through the Apple App Store.

Tip for parents: To prevent accidental purchases, enable Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > iTunes & App Store Purchases on your device and require a password for in-app purchases.
